About Column Labels
There are 72 laminated labels in three perforated cardboard sheets. Instructions for separating the labels are printed on each sheet. The perforated edge helps hold the labels in the slots on Number Crunchers so don't cut them. Labels can be displayed on the front and the back. Cliplock plastic bags can be used for storing separated labels, full sets of labels can be stored in a sandwich size bag, and class sets of one type of label can be stored in smaller cliplock bags.
Labels Expand the Number of Concepts
Not only do labels multiply the number of concepts for which Number Crunchers can be used but they help students when new topics which involve place value are introduced. e.g. students may be able to work successfully with numbers but when a dollar sign is introduced they often think everything changes, even the relationships between columns. If students are comfortable using Number Crunchers with numbers only, it is only a little step to introduce the dollars and cents label. Because students are using the same device they understand that the relationships between the columns remain the same.
